Living Life. Writing. Learning Sustenance.
![]() I've been working with Nia Fairweather, Linda Girón, and 3Girls Theatre Company for the last couple of months to help launch a new investigative theater project centered on immigrant women's reproductive rights while in US detention centers. Fact-based drama has been a tool of theater practitioners since the Ancient Greeks. Throughout time, the form has shifted and the style reshaped to adapt to the needs of the era in which it was reflecting. 3GT Investigates takes a contemporary, collaborative approach to fact-based drama, combining the art of theater with investigative journalism in order to create new narratives that explore the times in which we live. "3GT Artistic Director AJ Baker created 3GT Investigates to respond with immediacy to current events that are shaping our lives and infringing the rights of our community. Each script project will be researched and written by a different team of women playwrights/theater-makers who bring diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-political perspectives and experiences to the subject matter." The first work-in-progress is 3GT Investigates: Birth Rights directed by LisaMarie Rollins. Birth Rights centers around the realities of the current administration's war on the reproductive rights of undocumented women and girls in our country. Our investigators/writers have written a play based on true stories to present during the New Works Festival, followed by a panel-led discussion by our long-time partner, NARAL Pro-Choice America. The discussion will include activists in the field on what's being done to counter the attacks on women’s reproductive rights. It has been an honor to be Head Writer for this project with 3Girls Theatre and to have the opportunity to tell these stories. Catch a public reading of our script! Saturday June 28 - 7:30pm 3GT Investigates: Birth Rights 3Girls Theatre Company's New Works Festival Z-Below, San Francisco TICKETS
