Jennifer Lynne Roberts is a Bay Area playwright, producer, previous Head Writer and Associate Artist with Wily West Productions, and past President of the Playwrights' Center of San Francisco. She holds degrees in both Women’s Studies and English with a focus in Creative Writing from Otterbein College, and an MFA in Creative Writing from California College of Arts. She is Co-Founder of Ex Nihilo Theater, Producer for ReproRights! Theater, a 2017/2018 Brady Fellow at 3Girls Theatre, Program Manager and Head Writer for 3GT Investigates, and proud member of The Dramatist Guild of America.
Two short plays, FACTORY FARM: A Documentary and IT FARCELY SEEMS POSSIBLE are being produced in ReproRights! Presented by B8 Theatre in Concord CA. October, 2018.
The full length play, THE KILLING JAR, is slated for production with Spare Stage in 2018. THE KILLING JAR was a finalist for Dayton Playhouse's FutureFest 2014. Staged readings include Theater MadCap and Butterfield 8 Theatre Company. It was originally workshopped through Dragon Productions' New Play Development Factory.
ACCOMMODATIONS was developed through The Forge with Quantum Dragon Theatre, and will be presented for 3Girls Theatre's Salon Reading Series October, 2018.
The short plays, MARS ONE PROJECT and MEET CLAUDIA, were part of SUPERHEROES, a short play production with Wily West in 2014, and PHOTO DYNAMIC THERAPY premiered in Sheherezade 14, a co-production from PCSF and Wily West, 2014. Both SUPERHEROES and Sheherezade 14 received nominations for the Theatre Bay Area 2014 BEST ANTHOLOGY award.
MARS ONE PROJECT won San Francisco Theater Pub’s Excellence in Theater Award (STUEY) for Best Short Play. Was part of the PARAGON Science Fiction and Fantasy Play Festival with Otherworld Theatre in Chicago 2015, and Navigators Theater Company's Lift-Off New Play Series, New York, 2015.
Commissions include: DEATH OF A RIVER IN ¾ TIME for the San Francisco Olympians Festival V: Monster Ball, 2014; TO THE LIGHT ALIVE for SF Olympians VI, 2015; ELEMENTS OF BEING A MASCOT for All Terrain Theater's Women in Solodarity, 2015; REPRO RIGHTS! WOMEN@RISK in collaboration with 3Girls Theatre Company; COWBOY NOIR: TALL TALES OF THE UNNATURAL for Pacific Play Company, 2015; ZERO HOUR: THE MARS EXPERIMENT and I SAW IT, 2015; 3GT Investigates: Birth Rights, 3Girls Theatre, 2018.
BEEKEEPER, had its world premiere with Virago Theatre Company in 2011.
Other plays include: THE LAST DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY and LUNCH HOUR for SF Playground; CHYROSOMELIDAE HIDE NO MORE (produced by Wily West Productions 2013, and published in Sparkle & Blink); TWELVE POLE CREEK, FREEZE TAG, and PABLUM (produced for PCSF's 24-Hour Fest); FACTORY FARM: A DOCUMENTARY (produced as a staged reading for Repro Rights! a benefit for Planned Parenthood and read as part of The Disreputables SLUT Festival in Washington, D.C.
Current WIP: THE PENNSYLVANIAN, a one-act play with original music and BLISS POINT, a full length play about food, farming, women, war, class, privatized prisons, race, guerrilla gardening, Women's Land Army, patriotism, and being forcibly fed. Written during Residency on The Farm.
And if time and space allow, saving the world.
And percolating behind all of that is a play based on the life of blue grass musician and feminist, Hazel Dickens.
